Do not miss the beautiful and fascinated landscape of Mitspe Ramon Start the visit with a look in the visitors room [picture above]. Here pictures and guides tell you the history and how these craters exist. There was no meteorite. Millions year ago there was a sea and the water start to disappear. And so time by time these landscapes exist as it is today. You find Ramon nearly 80km south of Be'er Sheva. On many places in the Negev you can find pieces of former marine life like teeths of sharks etc. The highest top is 1000 meter. From outside the centre you see far away and deep many colours from even many stones. Nubian sandstone and black basalt are dominant. Special the basalt gives a view like it is burned. The whole area of Mitspe Ramon looks like there has been an impact of a meteorite. .The landscape wherein you travel shows whimsical rock formations, waved hills with a lot of colours and sometimes a breath taking views. Sometime there will be a fountain of who in whirl moving jump over the land. So there is not so much fantasy need for thinking about the people who lives here thousands years ago. In that time and the empire of ghosts and appearance has every not understood happening a function. Fog-bank and spontaneous by the heat of the desert buried oil full , sand spout and noisily wind has a meaning. And so the old stories exist. Just after Ramon there is a Paco ranch. Nice to visit these ranch and experience how these people live and work and surveillance the desert. From the wool of the Paco (lama) they prepare carpets and from to sell this article so they can buy milk and meat.
There is not so much rain in the Negev . No more as nearly 100mm per year. But one shower can be dangerous if you been on road on such moment. The wadis can be filled in no time and the flood came over the road. On some places you see a plate among the road with a warning. In summer, by day, the temperature is 40 degrees above zero. But in the night it can be could. Important trees are Tamarisk, Acacia and Terabit. There are also animals in the night also brown rabbits, snakes, porcupines, mouse and other rodent. The Bonelli eagle glides gracious trough the sky where also are raves and partridges. On the ground there are many beetles and scorpions. Beautiful landscapes we find surround Arava en Avdat. On some places are nature parks where antelope and gazelle lives. In the north of the Negev we find in springtime nice flowers.
To develop the Negev there is need permanent water. So the water came to this area by pipeline from the north from Lake Kinneret. Among road31 between Arad and Beer Sheva there are a lot of kibbutzim, most with agriculture. Mainly Bedouins lives there till 1948. The population of people was no more as 4000. Now there lives in towns like Arad, Dimona, Be'er Sheva, Eilat and settlements some hundred of thousand. Bedouins are still in the area. You see there black tents with sometimes a plate for television and a very sophisticated jeeps. Year ago Israel has try to let them live in real houses but this project failed. Enjoy it and make pancake in the desert.
A visit of kibbutz Sde Boker with the office (hut) of the old statesman Ben Gurion is recommended. There you can see how this former leader of Israel has lives and did his job. Together with his wife he is buried in this place.
